March 12, 2025

Dear Colleagues:

We are nearly at the midpoint of the semester, and a much-needed spring break awaits you and your students. I hope you are able to take some time to rest and enjoy life with loved ones and focus on your well-being. As much as we are all passionate about our work, these past two months have taken a toll across institutions of higher education like ours due to the flurry of executive orders and declarations, government cutbacks, and other federal actions including the mass layoffs at the Department of Education.

Yet there is little solace in knowing we are not alone, and I realize some of you have been more deeply impacted than others in our community as a result of your identities, your research, concerns for your colleagues and graduate students, or what you see your undergraduate students experiencing. Please know that even amid these challenges, I remain hopeful for our future because we are leveraging the best of who we are as a Ram community – our expertise, brilliance, compassion, and dedication – to stay true to our mission.

Below is the link to the March edition of the Faculty Newsletter. In it you will find college updates and the latest selected news from across higher education. In addition, my opening letter will discuss an Incident Management Team established by CSU in response to the federal impacts, and our new Strategic Roadmap, which President Amy Parsons and I introduced at this month’s Faculty Council Meeting.
