Invitation to Provost’s Ethics Colloquium on Mental Health (faculty & staff)
October 1, 2024
Dear Colleagues:
Please join me for the Provost’s Ethics Colloquium on Mental Health in Higher Education on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 9 a.m. in the Lory Student Center Theatre. Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Katie Rose Guest Pryal from the University of North Carolina School of Law. Dr. Pryal is a nationally renowned speaker and author on mental health and neurodiversity. She wrote A Light in the Tower: A New Reckoning with Mental Health in Higher Education (available here through the CSU Libraries), which earned her the 2024 IPPY Bronze medal in Education. Following Dr. Pryal’s keynote address, we will host a panel discussion with CSU faculty and staff. Visit the Ethics Colloquium webpage for more information.
For all of us who work in higher education, we know we cannot separate support for student mental health from our mission of access and inclusive excellence. Mental health is a foundation for student success and well-being. We must provide education to our faculty, staff, and students to help the entire community learn how to foster students’ mental health, how to recognize those who are suffering, and what to do every day to promote mental health in our community.

This colloquium is one way we can bring our community together around enhancing mental health and well-being. I encourage you to attend and participate in the conversation with your questions and comments.
Sincerely,
Marion
